ORBI-DENT

Wearing glasses or contact lenses is uncomfortable for many people. Some of them can not even wear these aids because of their profession or because of the large difference between the two eyes (more than 3 Diopters).
We are the first in Hungary to perform Laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) using the most recent laser technology. LASIK is performed to patients having more than 4 Diopters problem with their eyes.

What is LASIK (in situ keratomileusis) and PRK (Photorefractive keratectomy) treatment?
PRK and LASIK are the most recent treatment to correct the myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

Myopia
In myopic eyes the anterior posterior distance is longer than in normal cases. For this reason the beam of the light fuse in front of the retina, causing fuzzy vision of remote objects.

Hyperopia
In hyperopic eyes the anterior posterior distance is shorter than in normal cases. This is the reason why the beam of the light fuse behind of the retina, causing fuzzy vision of both closer and remote objects.

Astigmatism
This is a problem of the imperfectation of the cornea surface, which unables the patients to create the clear image on the retina. Astigmatism can occur in both myopia and hyperopia as well.

Excimer Laser therapy
This laser treatment is the suitable correction of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.Without causing any damage of the surrounding area. The laser evaporates the needless tissue of the cornea. Computer calculates the accurate size and ablation depth of the evaporation area to correct accordingly to the different Diopters.

How does the treatment go on?
Before the treatment, antibiotic, and anaesthetic eyedrops are given. During the treatment the patient has to focus on the flashing light.
Across the world, more than 6 million successful surgeries have been done so far.

LASIK therapy

LASIK is offered especially for those people having large Diopters problem.

How does the treatment go on?
Before the treatment anesthetic eyedrops are given. During the treatment we cut an 8.5 or 9.5mm in diamater and a 120-140-160 or 180mm thick flap with a special appliance. The Laser works under this opened flap and evaporates the needless tissue of the cornea. When the Laser treatment has been done we close the flap back to its right position. Since we do not make epithelial removal (removing the top level of the cornea) this treatment is absolutely painless. So far more than 350.000 successful LASIK treatment has been done all over the World.

These treatments are offered especially for those patients who are older than 18 years old, the deterioration of their eyes has been stabilized for more than one year, who does not have any changes in their eyeground or any general illness which can jeopardize recovery.

Preparation for the treatment

Informing the patient and signing the patient’s permission for the operation.
Preparing the patients for the operation: PRK treatment- antibiotic, and anesthetic eyedrops are given. In LASIK treatment only anesthetic eyedrops are needed.

Usually we operate only one eye at one time, but in special circumstances we do both as well.

After the treatment

In PRK: After the operation eyedrops, ointmented bandage or therapeutic contact lenses are given. The bandage will be removed two days after the surgery, meanwhile the epithelium is regrowing to the operated area. For home eyedrops and analgetic are given as well. Two hours after the surgery stitching pain and tearing occur. So we recommend you to sleep as much as you can on that day. Do not read or watch TV on the surgery’s day. Mild swelling in the eyelid is possible, but it usually disappears for the following day.
Your vision is going to drastically improve. For the second or third month it reaches it’s best and stabilizes.

In LASIK treatment: Special bandage is given for the next morning (bandage, which enables the patient to see). Also two types of eyedropps are given, for hourly use on the surgery’s day. For the following day 5 drops per day is needed.

Things you need to know!

  1. The contact lenses cause irregular surface of the cornea, so you have to stop wearing the soft contact lenses 2 weeks before the operation and 4 weeks before if you wear hard contact lenses.
  2. Do not use strong perfume or makeup on your eyes because they are harmful for the optic of the laser.
  3. If you have any problem with your eye, consult us before the operation.
  4. Bring all your eye control papers with you for the first medical examination.
  5. Sun-glasses are recommended for the first week after the operation! This will protect you from the sunshine, wind and dust as well.
  6. Control days after PRK: 3.day, 1.week, 1.month, 3.month, and in the 6. month.
  7. Control days after LASIK: 1.day, 1.week, 1.month, 3.month and 1 year after the operation. If you have any problem or question, do not hesitate to contact us!
  8. The medical examination and the operation is your expense.
  9. Both the medical examination and the operation are ambulant.
  10. We recommend you to come with an attendant for the operation.
  11. Have breakfast before the operation. If you are afraid of the surgery take a tranquilizer pill or ask from us!

We are very happy if you have made the decision to try the Excimer or LASIK treatment and hope that    we can provide an easy and life-ending solution for your problem!
